Groundwater Sampling Using the Geoprobe(R) SP-15 Tool

Groundwater sampling is performed by Impact Environmental using a sample train called the Screen Point 15 (SP-15). The SP-15 has been designed so that it can be installed to collect grab samples of groundwater through the Geoprobe® probing unit. The SP-15 can be removed after the acquisition of a grab sample and reused, or allowed to remain in place for subsequent sampling events. The installation of the SP-15 requires that the rods, which form the casing, be left in place for the duration of its use.

The stainless steal construction of the SP-15 is ideal for sampling organic compounds from trace levels to free product (LNAPL and DNAPL) when installed appropriately. Due to the design of the SP-15, it is now possible for investigators to determine if free product, as well as dissolved constituents, are present in the groundwater during investigations. This eliminates the need to install permanent monitoring wells during many groundwater investigations resulting in significant cost reduction.

The tool allows a stainless steel 4 foot screen to be delivered to intersect ground water.

Samples are transported to the surface via a check valve assembly.
